Airports

Paris has three airports and is well connected with direct flights from/to many cities. Reaching Paris itself from its airports can be done using RER (suburban metro), bus, or taxi, as detailed below. Some further information on travel from and to the airports can be found on the relevant RATP (Paris trasportation authority) page.

Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG):

  • RER B reaches central Paris from Charles de Gaulle Airport in some 40 minutes, and has a number of stations within Paris, where one can change to various metro lines. The ticket costs 10.30 € and serves until the final metro station inside Paris.
  • The Roissybus goes to the Opera area in Paris in 60-75 minutes and costs 12 €.
  • There is also an airport shuttle to a number of points in Paris. See the airport shuttle wepage.
  • Taxi to Paris costs between 50 and 55 € depending on the destination (flat rates).
  • For further information you may consult also the airport website.

We recommend using from Charles de Gaulle airport either the RER or a taxi.

Orly Airport (ORY):

  • RER B (reached from the terminal by a 6 minute monorail shuttle) leads to central Paris in less than 30 minutes, with various stations inside the city. The ticket costs 12.05 € and serves until the final metro station inside Paris.
  • The Orlybus goes from the Orly airport to Denfert Rochereau in Paris in some 25 minutes and costs 8.30 €. There, various metro and RER lines can be taken.
  • There is also an airport shuttle to a number of points in Paris. See the airport shuttle wepage.
  • Taxi to Paris costs between 30 and 35 € depending on the destination (flat rates).
  • For further information you may consult also the airport website.

We recommend using from Orly airport either the RER, the Orlybus, or a taxi.

Beauvais Airport (BVA):

The Beauvais airport serves a number of low-cost airlines and is further away from the city.

A shuttle bus connects the airport to Porte Maillot in Paris, takes some 75 minutes and costs 17 €. Its schedule from and to the airport is coordinated with flight arrival and departure times. Check with your airline and see the airport wewpage.

Train Stations

Paris has a number of main train stations located inside the city and is very well connected to many other cities in Europe, mostly by fast train (TGV or its international affiliates).

Examples of travel times to/from Paris are approximately: 2 hours 15 min. for London, 1 hour 15 min. for Brussels, 3 hours 15 min. for Amsterdam, 4 hours for Frankfurt, 4 hours for Zurich. See the French train website for train schedules.

Métro 14, RER C : Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand
Tramway T3a : Avenue de France
Bus 62, 89 : Porte de France

Public Transportation Tickets

The Ticket t+ is the main one-way ticket for all public transportation within Paris proper (but not for travel outside Paris such as to/from the airports). It is good for one trip and can be used to transfer from a Metro/RER line to a Metro/RER line or to transfer from a Bus/Tramway line to a Bus/Tramway line, but not to transfer between Metro/RER and Bus/Tramway. It costs 1.90 € and a book of 10 costs 14.90 €.

Tickets can be purchased at automated ticket machines available at most Metro, RER and Tramway stations. Single tickets (which do not allow transfer) can also be purchased directly from bus drivers for a cost of 2 €.

There are also daily and multi-day tickets available, as well as a weekly (Monday to Sunday) card (photo required). For trips outside of Paris proper (e.g., to and from the airport, to and from Versailles), one needs a special ticket. For more information, see the RATP website.

To plan your trip you may use (among other tools) the RATP tool.

Taxi

Taxi service is of course available in Paris, although it might be sometimes difficult to hail a taxi, especially at rush hours. Better order by phone or internet, or go to one of the many taxi stations inside the city (see the Paris taxi stations map). Fares inside the city start at 2.60 € (with a minimum per trip of 7 €), with additional charge for a phone or internet order. Some central taxi companies are listed below:

  • Taxis G7 : 01 47 39 47 39
